Putting its signature on successful projects in the defence sector, STM will now provide procurement services for the BÜYÜKADA corvette, which is the second of the battleships that will be designed and built at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard Command of the Turkish Naval Forces under the scope of the MILGEM project.
The Contract for the “Design Services and Platform Construction and Outfitting Materials and Services” of the BÜYÜKADA Corvette, which is the second ship of the MILGEM Project, was signed between STM and the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) on 25 June 2009.
The contract ceremony was held at SSM with the participation of Mr. Murad BAYAR, the Undersecretary for Defence Industries; Colonel Erhan Murat AKDENİZ, Head of the Shipbuilding Department of Turkish Naval Forces; and Recep BARUT, STM’s Director General, together with top-level officials.
Within the scope of the contract signed for this second ship, activities under “Procurement of Ship Platform Construction and Outfitting Materials and Services” will be carried out by STM, similar to the contract for the Milgem Prototype Ship, the HEYBELİADA Corvette. In addition to the procurements performed for the prototype ship, “Infrared Trace Management System” and “Degaussing System” and “EMI/EMC Tests” were included in the contract signed for the second ship.
At the contract ceremony, Murad BAYAR said that they are pleased about the level reached within the scope of the activities performed for the procurement of Prototype Ship platform materials and services, and that he believes STM will continue to work with the same level of success for the second ship.
Recep BARUT said that in the procurement services for the Second Ship, STM will successfully fulfil all tasks with a results-oriented working principle, as it did for the Prototype Ship.
STM Navy Projects Director M. Savaş Onur said that STM is successfully continuing its works in the construction phase of the Prototype Ship HEYBELİADA, and stressed that they are aiming to increase the national contribution share of over 50% reached in the Prototype Ship, within the scope of localization efforts.
ONUR said that STM, performing the activities under the “HEYBELİADA Ship Platform Construction and Outfitting Materials and Services” contract, works in cooperation with over 80 national subcontractor firms and will employ the same effort to work with many national subcontractors for the success of BÜYÜKADA. Before ending his speech, he added that he believes STM’s cooperation with subcontractors will make a huge contribution for the development of the national shipbuilding sub-industry.
