Research: Flight Control Systems Used in Aircrafts and Helicopters
 Flight Control Systems

STM, playing a significant role in building the airworthiness certification infrastructure of the Turkish defence industry, has conducted a research on “Flight Control Systems used in Aircrafts and Helicopters”.

In the presentation given by Doruk AKYILDIZ from the Certification Department at the “Information Exchange and Technology Platform” held at STM on October 31st, 2009, flight control principles for aircrafts and helicopters were explained along with control types, design steps and certification criteria.

In the presentation, AKYILDIZ first introduced the flight control systems used in fixed-wing aerial vehicles. Giving examples to flight control systems used to date, AKYILDIZ then addressed things to consider during the design phase. Saying that flight control systems are the main elements of the flight critical systems of aircrafts, AKYILDIZ emphasized that any accidents due to loss of flight control systems can be fatal, and gave examples from previous accidents. After giving brief information on the mechanical and hydraulic equipment used in flight control systems, AKYILDIZ also explained the flight control systems used in helicopters and gave examples to high-lift systems.

AKYILDIZ ended the presentation after brief information on certification requirements.
Relevant departments of the company participate in the seminars held on the last Saturday of every month, which have been continuing for almost two years.
