STM has conducted a study on reconnaissance intelligence, which plays an important role in ensuring homeland security.
At the “Information Exchange and Technology Platform Seminar” held on October 31st, 2009 at STM, Deniz ALTIN from the Systems Department delivered a presentation on “Importance of Reconnaissance Intelligence and its Contributions to Homeland Security”, which addressed systems such as unmanned aerial vehicles, surveillance satellites, zeppelins and helicopters, which are vehicles used in reconnaissance intelligence. The presentation explained how security of critical areas and facilities such as energy transmission lines, critical military facilities, military/civil airports and bridges is ensured using these vehicles.
In the presentation, ALTIN said that unmanned aerial vehicles are more advantageous than other systems in terms of costs, while viewing zeppelins provide less logistic costs, and gave examples to some reconnaissance views obtained from relevant platforms.
Emphasizing that in view of the changing intelligence concept it has become necessary to protect not only the national borders but also the facilities in the country ALTIN talked about city surveillance intelligence systems and airport security measures before ending the presentation.
