STM signed a subcontractor’s agreement on December 14, 2009 with the German HDW/MFI under the New Type Submarine (YTDA) Project covering the construction of 6 Type-214 submarines with air-independent propulsion (AIP) at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command.

The tasks that will be undertaken by STM in this significant and historical project of Turkiye will include participation in design activities, participation in engineering and system integration activities, providing support to the Gölcük Naval Shipyard as needed, localization of 18,000 items of materials, increasing national participation in the Project, and manufacturing in the local industry the submarine light hull blocks and various GPR units (Submarine Composite Superstructure).

STM will also undertake development of the shipyard and battery plant infrastructure, the procurement of materials and services that may be needed by shipyards for submarine construction activities and will supply integrated logistic support documentation services.

The contract, signed following a series of successful negotiations, is the highest value contract signed to date with a foreign company by STM. Through this contract, STM aims to increase its technological knowledge, experience and capabilities in design, engineering and integration with regard to submarine platforms and modernizations.

For the project, STM will assign a dynamic team composed of its experienced personnel and supported with its young and talented engineers, and is greatly honoured that through this team it will gain the aforementioned capabilities on behalf of Turkey and contribute to development of the local industry in the area of submarines.
