Türkiye’s first indigenous Fin Stabilizing System, which enables surface warships to safely sustain their combat mission capabilities under adverse environmental conditions and rough seas, has completed its deliveries for Malaysian Corvettes Project being constructed, where STM is the main contractor.
STM, Türkiye’s leading company in the naval domain, continues to transform critical indigenisation initiatives in naval shipbuilding into export success. In this scope, Türkiye’s first indigenous Fin Stabilizing System has been developed by cooperation of STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. and Robotek Automation Technologies Ltd., which was successfully deployed on corvette class warships. At present, Türkiye’s Fin Stabilizing System is being integrated into three corvettes being constructed under Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Littoral Mission Ship Batch-2 (LMSB2) Project led by STM. Relevant Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) have been completed, and delivery processes have been finalized.
To Be Deployed on National Frigates as Well
The national Fin Stabilizing System had previously been integrated into two additional corvettes under another warship project carried out by STM. With the Malaysian Corvettes Project, the system has now been installed on a total of five warships to be delivered by Türkiye.
The system will also be deployed on MİLGEM İstif Class Frigates within the scope of Türkiye’s national frigate projects. In 2024, the Fin Stabilizing System received its product certification from Türk Loydu, enabling its use on vessels certified by all classification societies that are members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), including Türk Loydu.
Ships Will Have Better Performance in Rough Seas
The national Fin Stabilizing System has been developed to provide a more stable platform against excessive rolling of ships in both directions in rough seas, increasing the ship’s operational capabilities and allowing the ships to operate safely. The system also increases both the safety of personnel and the operational efficiency of platforms and minimises the movements that occur due to challenging sea conditions or sudden manoeuvres that the ship will encounter in exercises and combat situations.
The Fin Stabilizing System provides support for helicopter operations as well as weapon stabilisation during firing and for replenishment, material, and personnel transfer at sea. Its design is robust and resistant to challenging sea conditions and has automatic and adaptive operating features.
