In the modern battlespace, the electromagnetic spectrum has evolved from being merely a channel for communication into an operational domain and a contested battlefield.
Mini and micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), while offering significant advantages such as speed, agility, and low radar signatures for critical missions like reconnaissance, surveillance, and strike operations, face substantial challenges posed by Electronic Warfare (EW) threats.
Jamming, deception, and signal interference attempts can severely disrupt the communication and command-and-control processes of these small platforms. Therefore, electronic warfare-resilient communication technologies are crucial for ensuring the mission success and survivability of mini and micro UAVs in the field.
STM develops proprietary electronic warfare-resilient communication solutions to enable mini and micro UAVs to operate safely and seamlessly in contested electromagnetic environments. STM’s work in this area encompasses advanced technologies such as frequency hopping, Low Probability of Intercept (LPI), dynamic waveform management, and spectrum awareness.
Algorithms developed by STM’s engineers continuously analyze the electromagnetic environment, detect potential threats, and dynamically optimize the communication parameters of the platform in real time. This allows mini and micro UAVs to maintain high resilience against enemy jamming and deception attacks, ensuring uninterrupted mission continuity.
STM also develops compact RF hardware solutions designed to meet the stringent requirements of low size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints inherent in mini and micro UAVs. Technical measures such as directional antenna usage, power management algorithms, and mitigation of multi-path effects at the hardware level further enhance communication continuity and provide robust protection against electromagnetic attacks.
For STM, electronic warfare-resilient communication is not merely a technological development field but a strategic necessity for ensuring that mini and micro UAVs can survive and successfully accomplish their missions in hostile environments. This capability strengthens both national defense competence and Türkiye’s competitive edge in the global defense industry.
