To initiate the development of a fast attack craft based on a national design, the “Turkish Type Fast Attack Craft Project – Phase 1 Contract Design Agreement” was signed between the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB) and STM on August 31, 2020.
Under the main contractorship of STM, the project has covered the definition of system requirements, concept selection, preliminary design, and contract design phases for fast attack crafts planned to be procured by the Turkish Naval Forces Command. These platforms are intended to ensure sea control and dominance in operational zones by neutralizing hostile elements and safeguarding national assets. During the project, original design activities were carried out including hull form optimization, structural analysis, main propulsion system, ship electrical system design, and weapon configuration, along with the development of corresponding design packages.
Following the completion of the design phase, a contract for the procurement of one prototype fast attack craft was signed between SSB and STM on September 9, 2024. The first steel cutting ceremony of the National Fast Attack Craft was held on July 8, 2025.
The platform is currently under construction at İstanbul Denizcilik A.Ş. Shipyard, with STM serving as the main contractor. With this project, Türkiye has gained the capability to construct a fast attack craft platform entirely of its own national design for the first time.
The National Fast Attack Craft (FAC) will be equipped with the necessary skills to carry out surface warfare missions by positioning itself in preplanned concealment positions, thereby complicating hostile detection and identification efforts. It will be capable of conducting surface engagements using long-range guided missiles and conducting coordinated attacks with frigates and airborne vehicles when necessary. The ship will be equipped with adequate air defense systems to ensure self defence and will perform high speed and maneuverability. From design to construction and procurement of outfitting materials, the project aims to utilize indigenous resources to the highest extent possible.
